A massive fire broke out on Sunday, August 15th  in the Jerusalem Hills. As of today (17th) smaller fires still remain. Dozens of KKL-JNF firefighters and personnel deployed from all around Israel to extinguish the remnants.

During Operation Guardian of the Walls, about 300 KKL-JNF firefighters worked around the clock battling fires caused by rockets and incendiary devices launched from the Gaza Strip. In times of war and also when fighting seasonal forest fires, it is their job to protect and restore Israel's green spaces for the benefit of people and the environment.

In the wake of the fire that devastated the Mevo Modi'im Forest two years ago, KKL-JNF's partners in Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Canada and France mobilized in support of the forest's recovery. The burnt ground slowly became nourished by the outpouring of support. Now, in a moving ceremony, KKL-JNF has officially launched the replanting of Mevo Modi'im Forest, to bring it back to life.
