General Information on the Educational Caravans

An Educational Bridge Between Israel and the Diaspora
 
The educational caravans of KKL- JNF operate throughout the world and bring the Land of Israel to the Jewish communities and educational frameworks in the diaspora. Through a wide variety of experiential activities, the caravans build an educational and values bridge between Israel and the children, teenagers and educators from various communities.
 
The educational activity combines Zionist content, a link to Jewish identity, familiarity with the activities of KKL-JNF in Israel and education for values of sustainability, environmental responsibility and solidarity. Throughout the years, thousands of guides and volunteers take part in this work, reaching hundreds of thousands of participants around the world.
 
Many educators attest that the caravans activities left a significant personal impression upon them, deepening their link to the people and State of Israel in their adulthood as well.

The Tu BiShvat Caravan

The Flagship Holiday of KKL-JNF – Linking the People with Their Land
 
Tu BiShvat is a central holiday in the educational work of KKL-JNF, which symbolizes the eternal link between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel and the purpose of KKL-JNF in the development of the land throughout the generations – from the purchase of lands and planting of forests to the promotion of innovative ecological projects with global impact.
 
The Tu BiShvat caravan brings the KKL-JNF's pioneering spirit and the work to 10s of thousands of children and teenagers in Jewish communities around the world. As part of the activities, the participants plant trees, learn about the meaning of the holiday and perform a Tu BiShvat ceremony under the guidance of KKL-JNF emissaries.

The activities are adjusted to various age groups: Young children are exposed to the nature and landscape in Israel, teenagers study further on issues of environmental sustainability, water conservation and Israel's contribution to the world in these fields

The National Caravan

Zionism, Nature and the Vision of the State of Israel
 
The national caravan focuses upon KKL-JNF's commitment to the renewal, settlement and development of the land of Israel in the past and present. The activities deal with KKL-JNF's Zionist endeavors and the development of green communities throughout Israel in the present.
 
By combining values of environmental Zionism with a long-term perspective, the participants are exposed to the projects of KKL-JNF in the fields of development of open spaces, education, community and the strengthening of outlying areas.
 
The activity deepens familiarity with the landscape, the map of Israel, its history, life in it in the present and the vision of the State – as it is also expressed in the Declaration of Independence.

The Summer Caravan

Values Activities in the Jewish Summer Camp
 
The summer caravan operates in cooperation with youth movements and educational organizations in the diaspora, and presents educational and value-based content to Jewish summer camps around the world.
 
The activity emphasizes the role of KKL-JNF in strengthening communities and environmental protection – both in Israel and in the participants' countries of origin. Through gaming experiences and active learning, the mentees are exposed to the story of the State of Israel and its contribution in promoting quality of life in the world.
 
The participants learn about Israeli innovation and widescale projects in the fields of forestation, the environment and water conservation, supported by KKL-JNF and friends of KKL-JNF in the world. Most of the summer caravan's activities are based upon use of recycled materials, as part of the environmental educational message.

Training in the Caravans

Join KKL-JNF's Educational Work in the Diaspora

KKL-JNF invites young men and women, who are interested in Zionist educational work, to join the training in the educational caravans throughout the year. The guides meet Jewish communities around the world, convey experiential activities and serve as ambassadors for KKL-JNF's values and the State of Israel.
