Location: Eshtaol Forest.
Description: Harel scenic lookout is the recommended starting point for a tour of the “Burma Road.” The stone house was the school of the Arab village of Beit Jiz. During the War of Independence there was an outpost of the 7th Armored Brigade (Hativa Sheva) here, which guarded the traffic on the road. KKL-JNF attached a high tower to the building, which serves as an observation point for KKL-JNF staff who warn in summer of outbreaks of fire (the tower is closed to visitors.) Next to the scenic lookout is a large model, demonstrating the Burma Road and its sites.
Directions: Drive on the Nahshon Junction–Shimshon Junction road (Route 44) and turn north to Harel scenic lookout on the short dirt road that forks from the road between the Km 6 and 5 markers (Waze: Harel Lookout).
The observation tower building is dangerous; do not approach it.
