Summary

The parachute kit invites the children to embark upon an imaginary journey throughout Israel, with the help of a giant, colorful parachute that has pictures of key sites in Israel on it. Through games, movement, stories and touch, the participants connect to the Israeli space in an experiential, stirring and enjoyable manner.

Course of the Activity:

Stage 1 – Opening (15 Minutes): Familiarization with the Parachute

  1. An experiential introduction to key sites in Israel.
  2. The children become acquainted with the pictures on the parachute and receive a brief explanation that they have gone on a special and fun trip in Israel, a trip with a special parachute.

Stage 2 – The Core Activity (15-20 Minutes): The Story of the Journey

Through an imaginary tale guided by the educator, according to the kit booklet, the children "fly" with the parachute throughout Israel, stopping at sites such as Jerusalem, Mount Hermon, the Dead Sea, Yatir Forest and more – combining movement, games, imitation and humor that match each location.

Equipment to Bring:

  1. Ball
  2. (Optional) Illustration Aids: Disposable cups, notebook, hat, pennant, binoculars, a handful of salt and more.

Stage 3 – Conclusion and Sharing (15 Minutes):

We sit in a circle around the parachute, throw the ball, answer short questions and summarize the experience: What did I like? What did I learn? Where would I like to visit?

An Option for Additional Activity:

We elaborate on several sites and then ask the children to run around the parachute, and when the educator says the name of a location everyone needs to run to the picture of that location and make the appropriate movement.

At the end of the guide booklet, there are ideas for additional activities with the parachute such as a game of cat and mouse, a performance, guided imagination and more.

Equipment to Bring:

  1. Ball.
  2. (Optional) Illustration Aids: Disposable cups, notebook, hat, pennant, binoculars, a handful of salt and more.
  3. The activity is based upon the imagination of the participants, and its purpose is to develop their creative thinking, therefore we do not recommend using additional accessories besides the parachute and the ball. However, the educator can choose to enrich the experience and add some of the optional accessories, for example: a water pistol for the Kinneret or Red Sea.
