The contract for operating the KKL-JNF House for Excellence, which will begin operating in Kiryat Malachi within several months, was approved in the municipality meeting that was held last week. This project, which has been approved in only four local authorities so far, will provide a variety of educational activities for the city’s pupils.
KKL-JNF World Chairman Danny Atar, accompanied by division heads of KKL-JNF, came to tour Kiryat Malachi a year ago. During the tour, Atar announced his intention to invest large amounts of funds for various projects in the city. Among them are the construction of the promenade at the city entrance, the urban park, and several other projects that the municipality wishes to advance. The headline of the visit was Atar’s announcement that Kiryat Malachi would be included in a special educational project that has been inaugurated in only four local authorities throughout Israel so far.
This is a new building, to be constructed with KKL-JNF funds, that will be used for various educational activities for the city’s pupils. One of the planned projects is to provide tutoring in various subjects to high-school students in the upper grades in order to improve their grades in the matriculation examinations. The tutoring, which will be provided for free, will boost the pupils’ accomplishments.
The person behind this impressive project — and who also fought persistently to bring it to Kiryat Malachi — is opposition chairman Yossi Suleimani, who is known for his extensive connections with the KKL-JNF’s leadership, and particularly with its world chairman, Danny Atar. Suleimani, who sounded very pleased, also spoke about the matter at the city council meeting during which the project was approved.
Suleimani said: “This project is definitely a breakthrough in the sphere of education in Kiryat Malachi. Our education system has received an unparalleled boost this week; the fact that KKL-JNF has decided to invest millions of shekels in our education system is a badge of honor for its directorate and, of course, its chairman, Mr. Danny Atar. I believe that the city’s pupils will be able to benefit from the services of KKL-JNF House as early as this year.” The future building, which is to be located in the urban park near the Eli Cohen School, is still under construction. After its scheduled completion date three months from now, it will be furnished — all with KKL-JNF funding.
Suleimani summed up the festive atmosphere of last week’s council meeting by saying: “I would also like to thank the head of the Shafir Regional Council, Mr. Asher Aberjel, who also serves on the KKL-JNF directorate and helped gain approval for the decision to bring the project to Kiryat Malachi, and of course the mayor, Eliyahu Zohar, and the director-general of municipality, Tamir Hizmi, who worked to have the project implemented.
“When it comes to the city’s children, and particularly the education system, there is no coalition or opposition. I am glad to have the privilege of bringing such a special project to Kiryat Malachi, and I will continue to do my best for the city in the future as well.”
