Hof HaCarmel Forest (Ofer Forest)

The Hof HaCarmel Forest has many recreation areas for day visitors. The main ones are HaShlucha Recreation Area - a large area for picnics, with wheelchair-accessible tables and drinking water; Tefahot Recreation Area - with regular and wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and garbage cans. The Escape Trail (Bricha HaBricha) starts at the recreation area – a hiking trail that follows in the footsteps of the Bricha Movement, which brought Holocaust refugees to Israel. The Ofer Recreation Area is another large site, located next to a fire watchtower.

The main recreation areas:

Shvilei Ron Recreation Area – a recreation area with picnic tables that is a famous starting point for cycling trips in Hof HaCarmel Forest. There is a sign describing the bicycle paths in the recreation areas. There is a wide variety of options and it is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, with all trails marked with directional signs. The recreation area is dedicated to the memory of Col. (res.) Aviel Ron and his two children, Ofer and Anat, who were murdered in 2002 in an attack by a suicide bomber at the Matza Restaurant in Haifa.

Mizrahi Tefahot Recreation Area - a large recreation area shaded by pine trees with one table that is wheelchair-accessible. At the western end of the site is the Sigi Scenic Lookout overlooking the western part of the Carmel Mountains and down to the beach. As mentioned above, the Bricha Trail starts at this recreation area. It is a loop hiking trail that is about two km long, and commemorates the movement that smuggled some 300,000 Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe to freedom.

HaShlucha Recreation Area - a large recreation area shaded by pine trees, with picnic tables, some of which are wheelchair-accessible, and a children's playground. At the western end of the site there are impressive, old olive trees commemorating Major Meir Zigdon (1950-1996). Opposite, on the other side of the scenic road, is a memorial corner for Anat Tamir Dubrow (1974-2011) where two tables, a wooden bench and stone benches encircle a round, paved plaza.

Atatürk Recreation Area – a recreation area with tables, which serves regularly as a base for cyclists who go riding on the Hof HaCarmel trails. Located adjacent to Route 4, at the intersection with the road leading up to the Meirav Center.
