Horashim Forest

Horashim Forest covers about 2,000 dunams in the western hills of Samaria, which run down to the plains of the Sharon. The slopes are mostly planted with conifers and the ravines between the hills are planted with eucalyptus trees. In the winter, the forest is decorated with an impressive bloom of flowers. Along the main road of the forest, KKL-JNF has built four recreation areas with wheelchair-accessible tables.

The Hezy Sapir recreation area is a separate site, located at the northern end of the forest, next to the gate to the village of Nirit. The recreation area has tables, some of which are wheelchair-accessible, a playground and a water tap. At Hurvat Zakhor (Zakhor Ruins, or Hezy Scenic Lookout), which rises above the recreation area, there are excavations of ancient installations, including wine presses, water cisterns and the remains of buildings. From the top of the ruins there is a fine view of western Samaria.

Directions: From the Horashim Interchange, exit east onto Route 5233 and drive a few hundred m to the gate of Kibbutz Horashim. Turn left before the gate and drive about 750 m to reach the entrance to the forest.
