Israel's Early Almond Blossoms Paint Jerusalem Hills Pink and White

The first almond trees of the season have been spotted blooming earlier than usual this year in the Sataf and Jerusalem Hills area, according to Dudu Morad, Manager of the Sataf Park in Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael–Jewish National Fund’s (KKL-JNF) Central District.

The beautiful pink and white flowers of the almond trees typically appear closer to the middle of the winter season in Israel, as the country’s mild winter temperatures allow pollinators to be active above 15 °C. Morad explains: “The almonds fall during autumn, and the flowers appear before the leaves grow. Usually, blooming occurs at the end of January, but this year the almond trees bloomed earlier."

The sight of the almond trees in bloom often heralds the start of a new season, as they are among the first trees to bloom in spring. This year, their early blossoms add even more beauty to Israel’s natural landscapes, offering a colorful highlight to the winter season.
