Approximately 20,300 Cranes Counted at KKL-JNF’s Hula Lake Park

The autumn migration is nearly over, and the wintering season is just beginning. Most of the cranes currently at the lake (commonly known as “Agamon Hula”) will remain with us throughout the winter, until the arrival of spring.

Bird migration is guided by changes in daylight hours. At this time of year, as daylight begins to lengthen, it signals to the birds that the autumn migration is ending and it’s time to prepare for winter.

Inbar Shlomit Rubin, Field Director at Hula Lake Park, said: “Winter is a wonderful season at the Hula Lake, treating us to breathtaking colors and landscapes. Many bird species winter here—of course the cranes, along with flamingos, various species of ducks, shorebirds, birds of prey, and more. During this season, we offer special sunrise tours, allowing everyone to enjoy the lake’s spectacular natural beauty.”
