Initiated by Dr. Merkel, the program supports students displaced by the October 7th terrorist attacks, helping those who lost their homes and financial stability continue their studies.
Eligible students, who resided in the affected communities until October 7th and are currently enrolled for the 2024 academic year at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Sapir Academic College, Ashkelon College, Sammy Shimon College, and Hemdat HaNegev College, will receive equal scholarships. Recipients must return to their studies in the 2024 academic year and participate in educational and professional events in the second semester, including round tables on the rehabilitation of the Takuma region.
KKL-JNF Chairwoman Ifat Ovadia-Luski emphasized, "The rehabilitation of the Western Negev is a national and Zionist mission, and KKL-JNF proudly leads this effort. These scholarships are part of our broader assistance to the south post-war, and we will continue to support and develop the south and north in various areas."
Dr. Merkel added, "Our focus at KKL-JNF Chief Scientist Unit is academic research, particularly in environmental and climate issues. This scholarship program naturally extends our work, helping students affected on October 7th get back on track."
Vice President for Public Affairs and Resource Development at Ben-Gurion University, Jeff Kaye, said, "It is our moral duty to support students impacted by the attacks and ongoing war. Financial aid is crucial, and we thank KKL-JNF for their support in this national mission."
President of Sapir Academic College, Nir Kedar, welcomed the collaboration with KKL-JNF, stating, "The KKL-JNF emergency scholarship program is vital for the Sapir community. This initiative helps our students continue their education and achieve their potential. We are grateful for KKL-JNF's commitment to our students' welfare and success."
