On August 16, the bird ringing season will open at the Birdwatching Park in Eilat, and the public is invited to watch the ringing every morning from 6:00 to 10:00. While the weather is still extremely hot, the birds' presence indicates of the coming autumn.
Oranit Ginat, Visitors Coordinator at KKL-JNF Southern Region: "The first storks have flown southwards, and small acrocephalidaes, olive-tree warblers and western-Orphean warblers are already on their way to Africa. But the biggest migration southwards is by the shorebirds, who come to us from te arctic circle, from Northern Europe and Siberia. The fly at about 100 kilometers per hour, for days and nights, and the Birdwatching Park in Eilat, along with the Flamingo Polls, are important stops on their hard way to Southern Africa. In the park, they find lakes with salt water full of anostraca, which is an important source of energy for them on their journey."
