Nostalgia: The KKL-JNF Historical Poster Exhibition

KKL-JNF is happy to invite the public to a new exhibition, which opens on Sunday, April 2. The exhibition will feature nostalgic posters, some never portrayed, from the 1920s to the 1970s. The posters reveal historical currents in the Zionist movement and values upon which Israeli children were brought up.

Right next to the Blue Box: KKL-JNF is happy to announce the KKL-JNF Historical Poster Exhibition. The exhibition will be presented at the Jerusalem Theatre until June 25 and will include 30 nostalgic posters from the 1920s to the 1970s, produced by KKL-JNF and the Teachers for KKL-JNF Council.
Among the posters presented in the exhibition are a poster of the Maccabi Village, designed by Frantz Karus (1935), the Shavuot holiday poster designed by Ora Eitan (in the 1970s) and the forest recreation area poster designed by Barak Nahsholi (in the 1960s). These posters were put on display in Israeli school, next to the KKL-JNF Blue Boxes.

The posters reflect currents in the Zionist movement and values upon which Israeli children were brought up: the love and development of the country, agriculture, land purchase, resistance to limitations on Jewish immigration during the British Mandate, Israeli holidays and more. They were designed by the best graphic artists and illustrators, among them Otte Wallish, the "Rollie" studio, Tzvi Berger and others.

Efrat Sini, Archives Manager at KKL-JNF: "We are happy and excited to invite everyone to this historical exhibition, which presents the posters that Israeli children grew up with – even before the country's declaration of independence. These special posters present the values that KKL-JNF supports. KKL-JNF calls the Israeli public to visit the exhibition and remember the special posters that were once displayed in their schools. These posters and many others are preserved at the KKL-JNF archive, among many other treasures."
