Rare Footage of a Swamp Cat during a Hunt at the Bee-eaters Wall in the Hula Lake

The cameras placed at the Hula Lake caught a rare sight of the cat trying to catch bee-eater chicks from the nesting wall built especially for them.

Inbar Shlomit-Rubin, KKL-JNF field manager at the lake: "the nesting wall was built for the benefit of the bee-eaters, because their nesting spots throughout the country are being ruined. They have many enemies, like snakes, that attempt to enter the nesting holes. This is the first time that we see and document a swamp cat hunting."

The bee-eaters' nests can be a meter deep, and even meter and a half. The chicks hear the warning calls of their parents when danger approaches, and enter the depth of the nest, which makes it difficult for the predators to find them. Click here to watch the video.

The Hula Lake is a unique habitat, of critical importance to several animal species. Watch the live 24/7 camera broadcast from the fascinating natural environment of the lake.
