The crane season is at its peak, and over the course of the past few days, tens of thousands of cranes came to the lake. They joined the thousands other birds that have already arrived at the lake including flamingoes, pelicans, charadriiformes, birds of prey and other species.
Inbat Shlomit Rubin, KKL-JNF Field Manager at the Hula Lake: "In these sad and challenging times, nature provides some comfort. The migrating birds arrive at the lake in the autumn season, as they do every year. Tens of thousands of cranes came to the lake. The Hula Lake is one of the most important wet habitats in Israel, and along the course of the bird migration, it provides a critical stop for birds migrating from Europe to Africa and back, in both the rich food it offers different bird species in their long journey, and in providing these birds with safe haven.
"In the coming weeks, thousands of migrating cranes are expected at the lake, some will remain throughout the winter."
Note: the lake is currently closed to visitors.
