The building of the "Hoshen" reservoir started two years ago as part of a project, which included the building of another large reservoir called "Bar-On", completed in 2020. KKL-JNF provides 70% of the funding for the project, while Mei Golan provides the additional 30%.
The project was initiated following water shortage for agriculture at the Golan heights, resulted from the "Nahalot" project in which 15 acres of land were given to each new farmer at the Golan Heights. The future water reserves will serve future preparation of additional agricultural lands.
Itzik Cohen, KKL-JNF's manager of the operations unit in the northern region: "we take advantage of the forces of nature and collect rainwater during the winter in order to provide water for agriculture during the summer. With the Hoshen reservoir, we can prepare new lands for farmers, turning virgin soil into flourishing soil."
