When the Ar'ara Community Forest Trustees Met the Shoham Community Forest Trustees

Last year, KKL-JNF's community forest trustees' conference brought together trustees from all over the country. The results of the conference could be witnessed on May 31st, in a warm and productive meeting in which the Ar'ara community forest trustees hosted the Shoham community forest trustees.

For the Ar'ara community forest trustees, it all began five years ago when they took it upon themselves to clear garbage heaps from the forest near their houses. Bringing neighbors, schoolchildren and teachers for the jobs, with help from KKL-JNF, they started to nurture the town's little piece of heaven.

In yesterday's meeting, an interesting discussion developed about forests and the way to protect them. The discussion that marked the beginning of a collaboration between the two communities, with the common goal of protecting the environment and green areas.

In Israel, the community forest is the green center of the municipal authority and its surroundings, providing the residents with a higher quality of living, and making a significant social, environmental and economic contribution to the community and the municipality.

The community forest is a free, accessible place, offering a connection with nature, heritage, the community and the area.
