In celebration of the 21st Maccabiah Games that will open next month, KKL-JNF reveals rare archive photos of the games held in in the 1930s and 1950s.
The photographs show Jewish athletes from all over the world who came to Israel to participate in the first Maccabiah Games held in 1932, and the third Maccabiah Games held in 1950, after a 15-year delay – the first Maccabiah held after Israel's declaration of independence.

The Maccabiah Games take place in Israel every four years, with Jewish participants from all over the world. The goal of the Maccabiah Games is to bring together athletes from all over the world who show the "Muscular Judaism" ideal.

According to Efrat Sini, manager of the KKL-JNF Photo archive, "KKL-JNF, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year, is a natural partner of the great Zionist project of the Maccabiah Games. Connecting the Jewish world with Israel, Zionism, and the ideas of excellence and solidarity are shared by KKL-JNF and the Maccabiah Games. During their visit to Israel, the athletes learn of KKL-JNF's contribution to the development of the land and the connection between the world's Jewish communities and Israel.
