Against the background of growing anti-Semitism, in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, the March of the Living has launched a worldwide campaign to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom (The Night of Broken Glass). KKL-JNF invites you to take part in this virtual event and add a personal message that in November will be projected on to the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, of the main synagogue in Frankfurt and of other religious institutions worldwide.
On Kristallnacht, November 9th, 1938, a pogrom erupted in which over 1,400 synagogues and other Jewish institutions in Germany were torched within the space of 48 hours. The Kristallnacht pogrom is deemed to have been the precursor of events that led to the Holocaust of European Jewry. Today, too, synagogues and Jewish houses of prayer are still under attack throughout the world.
The International March of the Living organization is proud to declare a worldwide campaign entitled “Let There be Light,” which will unite all those involved in the struggle against anti-Semitism, hatred and racism by taking the symbolic step of leaving lights burning on the night of November 9th, in both synagogues and private homes.
This campaign forms part of a collaboration with the Frankfurt Jewish community and Rutgers University’s Miller Center for Community Protection and Resilience, New Jersey.
The personal messages and the prayers of campaign participants will be projected on the night of November 9th on to the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, the walls of the main synagogue in Frankfurt, which escaped destruction by the Nazis on Kristallnacht, and the walls of other religious institutions worldwide.
Participants may add a personal message in any one of four languages (Select the language from the upper-right menu):
