As is the case every year, just prior to the spring (March 2018), KKL-JNF coordinates the seasonal grazing of sheep flocks in its forests in conjunction with the shepherds, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Israel Lands Authority and the Green Patrol.
The
grazing flocks of sheep are very important and are a help to KKL-JNF in the management of the
forests.
The sheep eat the green grass during the period from February to June and in doing do they contribute to a reduction in the quantity of dry grass which is left during the hot summer months, Such a reduction in the amount of grass reduces the danger of
forest fires.
In addition, the right amount of grazing encourages the
blooming of anemone flowers and enriches biological diversity in the forest.

Moreover, the seasonal grazing in the forests contributes towards a range of food for the flocks and saves the herd-owners the costs of feeding the animals.
KKL-JNF wishes to inform the ramblers and
hiking members of the public- particularly during the flowering season in the southern forests- that the sheep grazing in the forests are authorized herds that have been issued grazing permits, and their function is to assist KKL-JNF in forestry management.
The herds with grazing permits will be permitted to stay in the approved forests until June 2018.
Persons who are interested in obtaining a grazing permit are kindly requested to apply to the relevant KKL-JNF offices.
