Zorik Scenic Lookout (Mitzpor Zorik)

Location: The Sculpture Trail in Hatzerim Forest, west of Beersheba.

Description: The Sculpture Trail in Hatzerim Forest encircles Kibbutz Hatzerim from the south. The place, which in the past was a garbage disposal site, has been restored and KKL-JNF has built a scenic road there. The members of Kibbutz Hatzerim joined KKL-JNF’s efforts, headed by the artist Marga Fishtein, the trail’s artistic curator. Marga enlisted well known artists from throughout Israel who contributed their works to the trail.

The scenic lookout is on a low hill, and overlooks the Sculpture Trail, Kibbutz Hatzerim and the low hills of the northern Negev which descend south to Nahal Be'ersheva. Near to the scenic lookout is Hatzerim Liman (a dam that collects flood water in a small desert gully), where a small wood stands out in the landscape. The scenic lookout commemorates the pilot Colonel Arlozor (Zorik) Lev, who was killed in the Yom Kippur War. His plane crashed above the sea when he returned from an attack in the area of Port Said.

Directions: Drive from Beersheba towards Hatzerim (Route 2357) and enter the Sculpture Trail about 500 m before Kibbutz Hatzerim. Drive along the trail, enjoy the sculptures and the camping site and discover Zorik Scenic Lookout 3 km from the beginning of the trail.
