The Planning Task and Competition Sites

Two models of sustainable Israeli housing units — a creative, inspiring space that demonstrates concepts and methods of green building for housing — will be selected as competition winners.

The planning assignment
The purpose of the competition is to choose two models of a sustainable Israeli housing unit — a creative, inspiring space that demonstrates concepts and methods of green building for housing. At the conclusion of the competition, the winning models will be selected for construction. These units will serve, temporarily or permanently, as a demonstration center for green residential building and will be open to the general public.
Each unit will be in a built area of up to 100 square meters, and will provide lifelong service for a family and/or a varied group of tenants. Each model must allow for a varied lifestyle that combines work, residential living and various hobbies for leisure time, and serve as a visitors’ center as well. The budget for planning, construction, systems integration, integration of modeling methods and so on for each unit shall be approximately NIS 700,000 (including VAT).

The competition sites
The contestants must test the implementation of the model at the site of their choice. The selected site shall be in the north or south of Israel, in a climatic zone to be chosen by the contestants. Submissions must take into account the conditions at the site, availability and local climatic conditions, and must demonstrate the model’s contribution to the creation of urban density and its integration into the space and/or its replication into an urban complex.
