A heritage excursion marking 20 years since the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Thursday, 22 October, 9 Heshvan, 2015
The annual In his Foosteps event, a day of historical hiking to mark the assassination of the Prime Minister, a result of cooperation between the Yitzhak Rabin Center and KKL-JNF, featured for the fourth consecutive year.
This year we will be exploring Tel Aviv, the city where Rabin grew up and where he was killed. We will get acquainted with the area where Rabin lived as a child and in his youth, and track the main stations in his life and in the timeline of the State of Israel. Stations where we will stop and learn about them are to include: the house on Hamaggid Street where Rabin lived as a child; the place where the school for workers’ children and the Hanoar Haoved clubhouse were situated, which were Rabin’s home away from home; the residence of Eliyahu Golomb, the uncrowned commander of the Haganah; the KKL-JNF building, where decisive discussions were held by the national leaders, and where the dramatic decision was made to declare the establishment of the State of Israel; and Rabin Square.
Each group will visit some of these sites, and other locations, in accordance with a custom tailored agenda. Organized groups will also have the option of touring Burma Road and hiking the 1948 Trail in the Jerusalem Mountains. All of the routes will culminate at the closing ceremony in the Yitzhak Rabin Center, in which army troupes and the IDF Theater will be performing.
Guides and all activities are free of charge. Financial assistance is available for transportation for a limited number of groups, first come first served. Groups may register for the event by phoning 1-800-350-550. If it rains, the event will be postponed for one week.
