The event marked a significant moment in strengthening international ties and promoting shared values of partnership and friendship between Israel and Argentina. The tree planted during the ceremony serves as a living testament to the close relationship, mutual commitment, and shared values that unite the two nations.
Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahanish is the personal rabbi of Argentina's President, a great friend of Israel. Just last week, the Genesis Prize Foundation announced President Javier Milei as this year’s award recipient, marking the first time the prestigious "Jewish Nobel" will be awarded to a head of state. Throughout the past year, during challenging times, President Milei demonstrated unwavering support for Israel and the Jewish people. In February, he visited Israel and planted a tree in KKL-JNF’s Nations Grove in Jerusalem, just four months after the October 7 massacre. Today’s planting further underscores the shared values and deep connection between the two countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, KKL-JNF Chairwoman, Ifat Ovadia-Luski said: "Planting a tree is more than just a symbol—it is an act that strengthens the bond between people and their land and reflects our connection to the soil of the Land of Israel. We are proud to host the Argentine Ambassador to Israel at Kennedy Park as we continue building bridges of partnership and friendship between our nations. Argentina has shown true friendship and a deep alignment with our values. Your support has warmed the heart of our nation."
Argentine Ambassador to Israel, Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahanish added: "The tree we planted today symbolizes the strong and enduring ties between Israel and Argentina. Despite being a desert country, Israel has transformed into a green and flourishing land through extraordinary efforts and technological advancements. I thank KKL-JNF for the opportunity to participate in this meaningful and moving event, which reflects the friendship between our peoples."
