KKL-JNF Reveals a New Renewable Energy Pilot at the Eilat Eilot Conference

The Eilat Eilot Conference for Renewable and Clean Energies opened on Thursday, February 29, with an event attended by Israel's Minister of Environmental Protection Idit Silman. Among the conference guests are policy makers, heads of the energy and renewable energy industries, entrepreneurs, researchers and investors, who gather to discuss the passage to renewable energy.

The KKL-JNF panel was devoted to its collaborative pilot with Eilat Eilot Energy which will start this coming August – a new retention technology based on Sodium Sulfur instead of a polluting lithium. The demonstration system would be able to store and supply about one megawatt.

The Eilat-Eilot Conference for Renewable and Clean Energies is held at the Dan Eilat hotel, and is attended by Israel's Minister of Environmental Protection Idit Silman. Director General of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Guy Samet, Director General of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure Yossi Dayan, KKL-JNF Chief Scientist Dr. Doron Markel, and Eilat-Eilot CEO Dorit Benet.

The Conference, held for the tenth time, draws policy makers, heads of the energy and renewable energy industries, entrepreneurs, researchers and investors to discuss the passage to renewable, carbon-free energy in light of the global climate crisis. Among the subjects discussed are green hydrogen and connection to Europe, energy retention, the passage to zero-carbon energy, solutions for unconnected infrastructures at Bedouin towns and electric transportation.

KKL-JNF Chief Scientist Doron Markel: "KKL-JNF is proud to lead a variety of renewable energy-related projects. We are happy to collaborate with Eilat Eilot Energy and work together toward the global passage to clean energy. We hope that as early as this August we will get to see our pilot - retention based on Sodium Sulfur instead of a polluting lithium – starting. As part of the pilot, Kibbutz Elipaz will host a demonstration system that will be able to store and provide about one megawatt. The system will allow researchers to examine its efficiency and environmental influence."

Among the different events and panels in the conference are:

  • A special tour in renewable energy sites in Eilat and the Arava region.
  • Introduction of new pilots to promote renewable energy – KKL-JNF goes green.
  • Spark Tank – a startup competition for leaders in the field of clean energy.
  • Introduction of solutions for disconnected infrastructure in Bedouin towns.
  • The Tkuma region, and "net bypass" solutions for renewable and decentralized energy implantation in the short run.
  • A gala event and commendations for promotion of the renewable energy industry in Israel.
