The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 20, in the presence of the head of the council Mr. Salim Salibi, the Quarry Rehabilitation Fund manager Mr. Michael Harlav, the Beit HaKerem Cluster CEO Mr. Raz Tishler, KKL-JNF manager of the Western Galilee Region Shali Ben-Yishai and project managers at the A. Epstein company, the contractor who accompanied the project and supporting parties.
3 million Israeli Shekels were invested in the project. The rehabilitation plan was prepared by landscape architect Yael Bar Maor. Development of the forest area was conducted at the site of the abandoned quarry, which allows for recreational and educational activities while protected the natural landscapes. The rehabilitation includes sitting and picnic spots, walking trails leading to overlooks and protection of the landscapes using local flora.
Shali Ben-Yishai, manager of the Western Galilee Region, KKL-JNF: "As an active partner at the planning team I can attest to a hard professional work and a process of many meetings and tours taking four years to create this wonderful spot from an abandoned quarry at the Tzurit Gilon forest. The quarry was an illegal waste dump and an environmental hazard, and now the park is an accessible recreation spot, which includes a walking trail, a classroom, sitting spots and an overlook watching Beit HaKerem Valley and Upper Galillee mountains, serving the residents of Majd al-Krum and its surrounding towns. All this thanks to the special, extraordinary partnership of the Quarry Rehabilitation Fund, the Majd al-Krum Local Council, the Beit HaKerem Cluster and KKL-JNF."
Mr. Salim Salibi head of the Majd al-Krum Local Council: "thanks to a great collaboration we have managed to make this project happen. I did not believe that a place, which eight years ago served as a dump and garbage mountain, would become a park serving the whole area, but when you plan, you succeed. This is the first and only park in Majd al-Krum. The vision of the Majd al-Krum Local Council is to develop the site to a tourist spot in collaboration with the Beit HaKerem Cluster."
