An extraordinary event took place in the Ruhama Forest in the Negev – as KKL-JNF inaugurated a new grove of trees, dedicated to scientists who made Aliyah. This commemorative grove is the first of its kind - a living monument of gratitude to scientists who made Aliyah, and for their significant contribution to the development of Israeli science.

Following the 10 days of bombardments along Israel’s southern border during Operation Guardian of the Walls (May 2021), it became evident that residents of the southern region are in dire need of more bomb shelters in public open spaces, security plantings along roads and communities, and fire trucks to extinguish fires in various locations. KKL-JNF is committed to continue providing these to help assure the safety of all Israel’s southern residents.

During Operation Guardian of the Walls, about 300 KKL-JNF firefighters worked around the clock battling fires caused by rockets and incendiary devices launched from the Gaza Strip. In times of war and also when fighting seasonal forest fires, it is their job to protect and restore Israel's green spaces for the benefit of people and the environment.
