Old Mishmar HaYarden Recreation Area

A recreation area with picnic tables next to the remains of the historic agricultural colony, Old Mishmar HaYarden, which was founded during the days of the First Aliyah. The site overlooks a channel of the Jordan from high above. There is a memorial to soldiers who fell in the fierce battle that took place here during the War of Independence.

KKL-JNF has prepared picnic sites all along a 12-km-long scenic road. The southern end of the route is near Kfar Giladi and the northern, high end, is close to Kibbutz Yiftah. The Israel National Trail overlaps the scenic road in this section.

These are the main recreation areas:

Ein Ro'im Recreation Area - a recreation area with picnic tables on the Naftali Mountains Scenic road. There is a spring next to the site whose waters fill a trough in the winter. In the past, the water in the trough quenched the thirst of herds of cattle that grazed in the vicinity.

Geological Recreation Area – a unique recreation area with wonderful picnic tables made from a kind of stone popularly known as Yiftah Marble. Although the stone is not marble but chalk, it is special and beautiful to the eye. At the northern end of the recreation area there is a wheelchair-accessible picnic table and a playground. At the heart of the picnic site is the Cube Rock – a huge block of stone that rolled here from the top of a high cliff. The artist Yitzhak Shmueli wrapped the rock in purple decorations that break up its shape and emphasize it.

Access from the north to the scenic road: The Kfar Giladi-Margaliot road (Route 9977), about 400 m. west of Kfar Giladi.

Access from the south to the scenic road: The Yiftah-Manara road (Route 886), about three km north of Yiftah, between Km markers 6 and 66.
