Shefer Recreation Area

Located near the bend of Route 866 that goes up to Safed, the recreation area is shaded by the pine trees of an old forest that climbs along the upper channel of Nahal Tzalmon. It is especially enjoyable to visit at the end of the winter, when the stream flows in its full foamy force down the steep slope and creates a long series of small waterfalls. Those who want to witness this beauty should hurry, since the stream calms down during April and the water disappears as if someone suddenly waved a magic wand. It’s hard to predict in advance when the stream will decide to stop flowing because it depends on the amount of rain that fell during the winter. The recreation area has picnic tables, some of which are wheelchair-accessible.
