HaGilboa Recreation Areas

Along the scenic Gilboa Route, KKL-JNF prepared recreational sites with picnic tables.

From north to south, the main recreation areas are:

Nurit Recreation Area - picnic tables near the village of Nurit.
Katef Sha’ul - the main recreation area in Gilboa. We recommend taking a little detour north, to Mount Saul, a peak that protrudes from the main Gilboa ridge and is thus a prime location for viewing a landscape extraordinary in its beauty.

Vinya (Reuven) Cohen Recreation Area - a small and intimate recreation area, isolated from the main Gilboa road. The approach is difficult for a private vehicle, but passable.

The Sha'ar HaZahav ("Golden Gate") Recreation Area - a recreation area where there is an abundance of spring blooms. Particularly notable is the flowering of Gilboa irises, tulips, anemones, buttercups and a stunning abundance of other flowers. From here it is very convenient to go out on a steep hiking trail towards the "Hidden Valley.” In the recreation area, playground facilities were built and signposted walking trails were paved that lead to the Mount Lapidim Nature Reserve. Another recreation area was built halfway down the road – "The Mid-Way Recreation Area.”

Ha-Irusim Recreation Area – picnic tables near concentrations of blooming Gilboa irises.

Avinadav Recreation Area - between the kibbutzim of Ma'ale Gilboa and Meirav. The recreation area, at the foot of the Dubi and Eran Shamir Scenic Lookout, provides a fine view of the Jordan Valley and Gilead. KKL-JNF replanted ancient olive trees in this area.
